Let me explain that. This is not just an excuse, in order to make you use our service.
No, not at all.
The truth is, we don’t want you to be in the unfortunate situation where your proof of ownership collapses in front of the count of law, in like a second, when you thought you were secured.
We would hate that.
This is actually (the “Poor Man’s Copyright”) one of the biggest myths about copyright. A myth that can easily put you and your creations in great danger.
Here is how this was supported to work. You would mail anything to yourself (using an envelope of course) , and would keep that envelope sealed until you had to prove you own the copyright of that work (inside that envelope).
So, once and for all, the “Poor man’s Copyright” is not valid in any way. It’s proven fault in court so many times before, that nobody really gives any credit to it anymore.
Reasons why
By just putting some stuff in an envelope, you make no statement, you sign no forms and there is no way this proves you own the copyright of whatever you are mailing. People mail stuff they don’t hold the copyright to, like every day.
As well as this, envelopes can easily be steamed open and official postmarks can be altered or duplicated that any decent lawyer would easily discredit this point.
Finally, the most important reason why this is so a myth. During this process you are in control of everything. And by everything, I mean the material you include in the envelope that no third party verifies.
It’s proven in the court of law several times in the past, that individuals would mail empty envelopes to themselves, and use then at a later date and time.
So, don’t fool yourselves and don’t be cheap. Your creations deserve much more than that, don’t you agree ?
